Baca plans to keep truckin' at Phoenix
This is David Baca's second trip to Firebird International Raceway this season. He hopes that the second visit during the NHRA Checkers Schuck's Kragen this weekend is better than the first.
"At the preseason testing session, the track at Firebird left a lot to be desired," said Baca, who drives the American Racing/3-A-Day of Dairy/Dairy Farmers of Oregon Top Fuel dragster. "I don't know of many teams that were happy with the conditions there in early February.
"It makes you very appreciative of the NHRA Safety Safari. Not only are they the best in the business when it comes to preparing the tracks we race on, but they are the best in the business in keeping each and every driver safe and extending the best care, in the event of an emergency.
"I feel that the fans will see a fast, quick, and competitive event this weekend. Hopefully, we can keep all eight candles (cylinders) lit and build on the performance we established at the Winternationals."
Coming off a strong showing during his rookie year on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series last season, David Baca is tied for seventh in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings after one of 23 events on the 2004 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Baca will continue the 3-A-Day of Dairy campaign, a pilot program for a national marketing campaign, through the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.
The 3-A-Day of Dairy nutrition-based marketing and consumer education campaign is managed by The American Dairy Association/National Dairy Council, with the monetary support of the dairy industry and the professional support of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Dietetic Association and the National Medical Association.
An old, yet new marketing partner, Don Steves Chevrolet in La Habra, Calif., joined Henkelman & Baca Motorsports at Pomona and will provide the tow vehicle for the 2004 season.
"In all the excitement of the season-opener at Pomona, I failed to mention one of the important parts of our team of marketing partners -- Don Steves Chevrolet in La Habra, Calif. Don Steves Chevrolet began providing our tow car the first year that Rick (Henkelman) and I became owners of a Top Fuel team. You couldn't ask for a better dealership to do business with.
"While it may sound corny and like a commercial, I feel that Don Steves Chevrolet is the proverbial light house, a guiding light, in a sea of car dealerships. If you are in their area, drop by and see what I mean. Don Steves Chevrolet will keep us truckin' at Phoenix and on down the road," reflected Baca.
