Dave Connolly and the SKULL GEAR Chevrolet Cobalt team spent two days testing before coming to the Checkers Schuck's Kragen Nationals at Firebird International Raceway and the results were better.

Connolly qualified 13th for Sunday's race with a Saturday afternoon run of 6.720 seconds at 205.35 mph and he squares off against Richie Stevens (No. 4, 6.685 at 205.38) in the opening round.

"The car has definitely improved," said Connolly. "It's getting off the starting line better and is making much better runs but we still aren't where we want to be."

Crew chief Terry Adams was perplexed by the car last run Sunday. "It made a nice run, it just didn't run like we thought it would. It is nice to qualify, but we didn't come here just to qualify. We want to win races."

That's their goal Sunday.
