Advance Auto Parts Racing Team to test after Phoenix event.

CHANDLER, Ariz. (February 23, 2003) -- Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Funny Car Racing Team will be adding more "track time" to their busy schedule following the Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals. Plans to stay at Firebird International Raceway and test on Monday evolved before the national event -- with three solid passes as goal for their upcoming day of testing.

Qualifying in the number 15 spot at the Phoenix event, Cruz Pedregon made his best pass of the weekend on Friday afternoon with a 4.948 e.t. at a speed of 296.89 miles per hour. Other attempts of the weekend included a strong 60 ft. incremental time before struggling with tire smoke, as well as a blower belt mishap on another qualifying pass.

Sunday's first-round pairing against Gary Densham proved Cruz Pedregon a better reaction time (.049 to Densham's .091), but no victory win as the Advance Auto Parts Firebird began to smoke the tires just off the starting line. Upon completion of their second race of the season, the Advance Auto Parts Racing Team will stay focused as they head back to the Indianapolis shop after their day of testing.

Crew members are already thinking in terms of "Gainesville" as they prepare for the next event that will take place in Florida. Known as the Mac Tools NHRA Gatornationals, the second largest race of the POWERade Drag Racing circuit will be held March 13-16th at Gainesville Raceway.
