CENTURY 21( Pro Stock Firebird pilot Tom Martino knew he had his hands full coming out of the thirteenth spot in Sunday's final eliminations of Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals. Not only would he have to face fourth qualifier Mark Pawuk in the first round at Firebird International Raceway, but he would do so without the luxury of lane choice. However, his chances for an upset win were quickly extinguished when his car was slowed by severe tire shake, forcing him to shut off and hand the victory to his opponent.

"We figured we'd show those guys in Top Fuel and Funny Car that we can shake the tires just as hard as they can! But seriously, even though we didn't run well, the end result was actually better than you'd think. We made some changes to the CENTURY 21( Firebird that we believe got it back on track. We were just off on our set-up for the first round.

"It basically goes back to losing those two runs on Friday. We got behind the eight ball when we first got here and never quite made it back. We'll go home from here to work on our motors, including fixing the one we broke. After that, we'll spend some time in Bradenton testing. I'm pretty confident we'll be one of the cars to beat in Gainesville."
