UPS TOP FUEL CAR LOOKING TO DELIVER IN PHOENIX
Chandler, Ariz (Feb. 23)- Bob Vandergriff Jr., driver of the UPS Top Fuel dragster is ready and anxious for the second stop on the 23 race NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series this weekend at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Ariz. After just missing making the field in Pomona (Calif.) by .002 seconds, the team drove to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to test and tune the car.
"My crew has worked tirelessly to get us ready to compete," Vandergriff said. "They worked a week straight for nearly 18 hours a day just to get the car and trailer ready to roll. We got to put three laps on the car in Las Vegas prior to heading to Pomona. We really looked at those precious four rounds of qualifying as a continuation of the testing proceedure. When we pulled out of Pomona early Monday morning, we only had seven runs on the car. We headed to Las Vegas and got to run some very impressive numbers as Jim Dupuy (crew cheif) got a better handle on these new parts," Vandergriff added. "We accomplished what we were looking for, and everyone headed home for some long deserved rest. We are ready and eager to get our car well qualified and go some rounds on Sunday. I can't tell you what it means to me to see this team put everything they have into working on this car. I have an awesome group of guys that want to succeed and get this car into the winners circle."
Vandergriff is returning to Charlie Allen's Firebird Int'l Raceway for the first time since he was runner up to Tony Schumacher there in 2000. There is nothing more that he would like than to win and deliver a Wally to UPS headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. on Monday after the race.
