Perkinson And Cunningham Motorsports Prepare To Step Up Their Game
New shop help may yield improved results on race weekends.

Approaching the 9th of 22 events in the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season, Cunningham Motorsports team members are asking themselves a few valuable questions, the most important one being, “Will this work?”

The team, owned by Jim and Gloria Cunningham, has recently hired a new engine builder, crafted new parts and reportedly found more horsepower all in a matter of weeks- a few changes they are hoping surrender the results they need.

“A lot of things have changed here recently. We’re still waiting for our turn to get that round win, but of course we have to qualify first. I think we’re taking the necessary steps in the right direction and I’m excited for the future. Jim [Cunningham] is very excited that the guys have found more horsepower, and we’re ready to go racing!” said Buddy Perkinson, the 19-year-old Pro Stock driver from Prince George, Va.

The 11th annual Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Tri-Cities Area Ford Dealers is the next event for Perkinson and Cunningham Motorsports, June 17-19.

“We are getting ready, mentally and physically, for Bristol. I have faith in all of [Jim] Cunningham’s guys. They know what they’re doing, they have made some great changes to the car, and on top of that, they have more help now. I really hope everything goes as planned and we can get something done in Bristol,” added Perkinson.
