DINWIDDIE, Va. -- Paul Romine and his Indianapolis-based CARQUEST Top Fuel dragster earned a semi-final finish Sunday at the 4th annual NHRA Pennzoil Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park.

With nitro wizard Clayton Harris turning the wrenches, Romine defeated Eddie Hill in the opening round and in round two sent Shelly Anderson home before Cory McClenathan defeated the CARQUEST dragster in the semi-finals.

“Although our ultimate goal this weekend was to win the event, we had a great weekend of racing,” Romine said. “Even though we are only attending selected NHRA events this season, so far I’ve been pleased with our results. Throw out Gainesville and Atlanta and we have a runner-up finish at the Winston Invitational and a semi-final finish here. That’s not bad considering we don’t run the entire tour. When get a few more NHRA events under our belts, I think we’ll see even better results in NHRA.”

The next event for Romine and the CARQUEST team will be May 1-3 at the IHRA Southern Nationals in Darlington, S.C. From there Romine will compete at a match race in Stanton, MI with Shirley Muldowney and a match race in Norwalk, Ohio with Muldowney, Cristen Powell and Gary Scelzi before returning to NHRA Winston Drag Racing competition, May 28-31, at the Inaugural Route 66 Nationals in Joliet, Ill.
