Oakley Inc., signs on as lifestyle marketing partner of NHRA.
GLENDORA, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2003) - The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and Oakley, Inc. (NYSE:OO) have reached an agreement to have Oakley become a lifestyle marketing partner of NHRA, beginning with the 2003 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season. The announcement expands Oakley's already strong presence in the sport, with long-standing relationships with numerous teams both as a primary and associate sponsor.
"This agreement reaffirms the mutual value associated with the Oakley sponsorship within the NHRA," said Gary Darcy, vice president of marketing. "Oakley is a true lifestyle brand and is a perfect fit for the overall NHRA experience for fans, teams and sponsors. This announcement today, I believe, solidifies the commitment by NHRA and Oakley to bring the precision and passion of 'Mad Science' to each of the 23 events that make up the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series."
As a lifestyle marketing partner of NHRA, Oakley will continue its involvement with NHRA race teams and will continue to have the "O" store on-site at every NHRA national event. The popular "O" store features a vast array of Oakley products and merchandise available for purchase by NHRA fans.
Currently, Oakley is the primary sponsor of the two Funny Cars owned by Schumacher Racing and driven by Scotty Cannon and Gary Scelzi. In addition, Oakley is an associate sponsor with Schumacher Racing on its Matco Tools Funny Car driven by Whit Bazemore and the U.S. Army Top Fuel Dragster piloted by Tony Schumacher.
