NORWALK, Ohio (June 27) -- Raymond Commisso continued his midseason comeback by advancing to the semifinals of Sunday's Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series race at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.
It was the second time in three races that Commisso has reached the semifinals in the R2B2 Racing Camaro, but the Canadian was in no mood to celebrate because of the way he lost his semifinal matchup against Pat Musi.
Commisso was aggravated at himself because he gave up a ton of time (.053 seconds, an eternity in drag racing) at the starting line to Musi. Commisso ran a 6.011 second pass at 242.98 mph, but it wasn't good enough to make up the deficit because Musi crossed the finish line first despite running a slower 6.052 at 238.68 mph.
"There are lots of ways to lose races and that's one of the worst," Commisso said. "The guys bust their butts all weekend, give me the best car on the property, and I lose on a holeshot. It's very tough to take.
"I've got the best car, the best crew, and the best team in dag racing. I let them down today. I need to sharpen up on my reaction times."
Commisso advanced to the second round of Pro Mod eliminations on Saturday afternoon. He started Sunday matched up with Burton Auxier.
Auxier got a significant jump off the starting line, but there was too much power under the hood of Commisso's Camaro. Commisso ran a very quick 6.050 second lap at 243.33 mph. Auxier ran a 6.276 at 233.68 mph.
The Get Screened America Pro Mod Series doesn't race again until Labor Day weekend at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Commisso said he plans to make full use of the time off.
"We plan to test the car," he said. "We've got eight weeks until the next Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series race so I've got lots of time to buy a practice tree and get better at my job."
