RIVAS AIMS FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE SUCCESSFUL RACE CONFIDENT THE TEAM WILL BE A TOP CONTENDER IN OHIO
NORWALK, OHIO, June 25, 2008-Chris Rivas of the G2 Motorsports/Drag Specialties/S&S Cycle V- Twin Pro Stock Motorcycle is confident that this weekend's Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals here will be a success for the team, but is still shaken like all members of the NHRA POWERade drag racing family following last week's events.
Last Saturday at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park (Englishtown, N.J.), Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta suffered a fatal crash during the final qualifying session for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals. "It's never easy, but he would have wanted us to race," said the 41-year-old Fresno, Calif. native. "Going out for the first round (on Sunday) was the most mentally and emotionally challenging thing I had to do in my pro career." While in the staging lanes, preparing for another run, the rain began to fall which was a relief for Rivas. "I was never so glad to see rain. The rain delay was about 45 minutes, which gave me enough time to regain composure and go back out for the first round."
When the rain stopped, Rivas went on to the first of his three victorious runs before losing to Chip Ellis in the final round of eliminations. It was his second consecutive appearance in the finals, third in his career. As for this weekend's race at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park, Rivas expects to build on the momentum from Englishtown and Chicago.
"I'm glad that we can race again so soon, it's nice to have the momentum to ride on. I think we can expect to see the G2 Motorsports/Drag Specialties/S&S Cycle V-Twin continue to qualify high and have strong rounds. We're looking forward to seeing the motorcycle be a top contender from here through the end of the countdown." This weekend's race is the seventh Pro Stock Motorcycle event and is the 12th national event, marking the official halfway point of the 24-race NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
