Cory McClenathan Can't Hold Off Vandergriff at Norwalk
Cory McClenathan did all he could to get a first-round win over Bob Vandergriff Sunday in the inaugural Summit Racing Nationals at Norwalk. McClenathan got the Scott Griffin Motorsports FRAM Top Fuel dragster off the line first -- .097-second to .116-second -- but he couldn't hold off his rival.
Vandergriff lit the win light with an elapsed time of 4.608 seconds at 319.75 mph while Cory Mac was right behind at 4.658 seconds, 313.88 mph.
"That was a tough one," said McClenathan. "We weren't able to gain any ground in points this weekend. We must start winning more rounds on Sundays. Time is getting short."
McClenathan now has 487 points going into the 12th of 17 races in the Countdown to Eight portion of the NHRA POWERade Series championship race that trims the contending field to the top eight next month.
McClenathan and the team now move to Bristol, Tenn., for the Thunder Valley Nationals, Friday through Sunday. It's the halfway point in the current six-races-in-six-weeks marathon.
