Norwalk: Antron Brown Saturday report

ANTRON BROWN QUALIFIES SECOND AT NORWALK

NORWALK, Ohio (June 26, 2010) - Antron Brown raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the No. 2 qualifying position Saturday at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park. Brown's quickest qualifying lap came on Friday evening with an elapsed time of 3.795-seconds. It is the second time he has qualified second this season.

Brown, who posted the second quickest run on Friday at the Norwalk track at 3.795 seconds at 318.99 mph, lost traction on Saturday's first run as the Matco Tools/U.S. Army car slowed to a run of 5.200 at 138.77. On his final qualifying attempt, the former Pro Stock Motorcycle star powered to the second quickest lap of the session at 3.901 at 313.29 earning the Matco-backed team two bonus points. Brown earned four bonus points in qualifying this weekend and has now qualified in the top half of the 16-car field at 11 of 13 races. He has an average qualifying position of 4.92 this season. In four tries at the Norwalk track, he has never qualified lower than sixth.

"Our car continues to be flawless," Brown said. "We qualified near the top of the pack again and that's always our goal. We put on a good show for all our Matco Tools guests from Stow (Ohio) and our Matco distributors and now we want to win a race for them too. We're just going to take things one round at a time and do our best on Sunday."

Brown will face off against No. 15 qualifier Luigi Novelli in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at 11 a.m. (ET) at Norwalk. Brown is 2-0 in his career against Novelli and has a record of 18-12 this season.
