ANTRON BROWN EARNS PROVISIONAL NO. 2 SPOT FRIDAY AT NORWALK
NORWALK, Ohio (June 25, 2010) - Antron Brown raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the provisional No. 2 qualifying position Friday evening under the lights at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park with an elapsed time of 3.795-seconds.
Brown, who enters the 13th race on the 2010 NHRA schedule ranked fifth in the NHRA Top Fuel standings, opened qualifying at a sunny Norwalk track with a consistent lap of 3.946 seconds at 307.02 mph behind the wheel of his bright blue Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster. That was the eighth quickest pass of the session. Late Friday evening under the lights at the famed Norwalk track, Brown used a tune-up from crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald to power the Matco-backed rail to a lap of 3.795 at 318.99. It was Brown's fourth 3.7-second elapsed time of the season and earned the Matco team two bonus points. Only point's leader Larry Dixon was quicker at 3.780-seconds. Brown's quickest elapsed time at the Norwalk race last June was 3.933- seconds.
"We made two good laps today here at Norwalk," Brown said. "It was a long day, but a good one for our DSR Matco Tools team. It's Matco's home track and we want to do well for Tom Willis, John Torok and all our distributors here in Ohio. This is an important weekend for our team. We're closing in on fourth place in the points and we want to continue to qualify well and go rounds. Our first run was a little soft, but Brian (Corradi) and Mark (Oswald) tuned it up and we ran that great 3.79. We're happy with that and excited for a good weekend."
Professional nitro qualifying resumes on Saturday afternoon at the Norwalk track with sessions scheduled for 1 and 4:15 p.m. (ET). Top Fuel will run first followed by Funny Car. Brown has qualified sixth, sixth and fifth in three tries at Norwalk.
