Callaway looking to close divisional season with bang

NOBLE, Okla. - After two races of struggling, NHRA Federal Mogul Dragster driver Lee Callaway feels he has found the problem that has kept his new Ora Vasquez combination from performing to it's full potential. At this weekend's final Division 4 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Thunder Valley Raceway Park just outside of Oklahoma City, Callaway and his Finishline Performance/AllStateRV.com backed team hope to close the season out with a bang.

Callaway, from Baytown, Texas, cites that a bad ignition part (coil) was the culprit of what Callaway deems as their 'sub-par' performances at their past two races. After going over the ignition system with a fine tooth comb, and replacing necessary parts, Callaway feels this may be the weekend he and his team step to the next level of performance that other cars tuned by the veteran Vasquez have seen.

"We found that we had a bad coil on the car," said Callaway. "I'm sure that wasn't doing it any good, so we put a new one on there. This weekend we will have Ora here with us, rather than trying to tune over the phone like we did in Memphis. We are going to try to turn things around. We know that we should be able to run pretty competitive."

With the top five national cars entered into this weekend's race, Callaway feels it may take 5.4 second times just to get in the field this weekend.

"We're still working towards the same thing we have the last few races," explained Callaway. "We just want to make consistent runs that are pretty competitive with what everyone else is running."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the Federal Mogul Dragsters, with two more sessions following on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideFMRacing.com for the latest news from the world of Federal Mogul Racing.
