Callaway looking to clinch Division 4 Championship.

NOBLE, Okla. - NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Lee Callaway is potentially one race away from something he has never achieved: a Division 4 Championship. At this weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series closer at Thunder Valley Raceway Park just outside of Oklahoma City, Okla., Callaway can clinch the championship by making the final round.

Callaway, from Baytown, Texas, must have one of two things happen to clinch the championship. He can seal his own fate by making the finals, but if second place driver Shelly Howard does not win the event, Callaway will also clinch. As good as it sounds, Callaway is not taking the situation lightly.

"I'd like to be happy right now," said Callaway. "But I know this championship race isn't over until the last round this weekend. Shelly is the defending Division 4 Champ, and more than capable of winning this weekend. We definitely cannot take it easy just because we have the lead. They have a good team, but there's also a lot of other good teams we will have to deal with as well."

Callaway, who has won three straight races on the divisional level, hopes to keep that streak alive.

"We've won the last three races because of changes we have made in the way we race and operate," stated Callaway. "We're going to try to take that same formula into this weekend's race, and run just as hard as ever."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest in alcohol racing news.
