Troxel hoping Texas heat will equalize the playing field on race day
DALLAS (Sept. 24) – Melanie Troxel's In-N-Out Burger Toyota Funny Car didn't put up the big qualifying numbers it has in recent weeks but the team is safely in the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals and in position to battle for the win.
"We were plagued by a few problems on several of our passes," Troxel said. "We've not cracked the consistency or performance we're been having yet this weekend. Hopefully it will come tomorrow."
The In-N-Out car landed in the lucky 13th spot for Sunday's eliminations after a best pass of 4.208 seconds at 296.76 mph.
"Sunday is going to be anybody's race," Troxel said. "It's gonna get a lot hotter and the track will be tough to read. We'll keep sorting through the data and working on things until we get it right."
Troxel draws Robert Hight in the first round. He qualified fourth with a best pass of 4.154 seconds at 304.32 mph.
"The heat may work to our favor," Troxel said. "We've had a good race car over the last three or four races, and I think we can sort out our problems and bring that car back."
Eliminations from Texas Motorplex get under way at 11 a.m. CDT on Sunday.
