Langdon plans to play the role of spoiler against hometown hero Schumacher
Shawn Langdon will be ready for anything once eliminations for the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Route 66 Nationals get underway late Sunday morning.
Langdon and the Lucas Oil/Speedco Top Fuel dragster will square off against hometown favorite Tony Schumacher in Round 1 and most likely face difficult track conditions.
"We smoked the tires when the sun was on the track," Langdon said. "I don't think Schumacher made any good runs during the day, either. It's going to be tricky for everyone, and probably be a pedalfest."
Langdon qualified for eliminations in the No. 12 spot with a best pass of 3.943 seconds at 301.40 mph. Schumacher's top qualifying run, good for the No. 5 spot, was 3.873 seconds at 313.95 mph.
"We just have to hope we make a good run tomorrow," Langdon said. "Tony got us in Bristol (last month). Hopefully, we'll be able to get him back tomorrow."
Langdon said that a round win or two will do a lot to help the team's overall effort.
"We've been kind of sliding down the points a little bit lately," he said. "We're getting to Countdown time pretty quick. We need to get this car going rounds and get it consistent again so we can get the momentum shifted in the right direction."
