JOLIET, ILL. (June 4, 1999) - Two low 4.7-second passes currently have Paul Romine and the CARQUEST Top Fuel dragster 16th best of 24 competitors after day one of the 2nd annual FRAM Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway near Chicago.

In the first session of qualifying, Romine recorded a 4.749 ET at 274.89 MPH, he followed that with a 4.757/296.05 in the night session.

"That first pass would have been better, but it got out of the groove so I clicked it early," said Romine, who was a semifinalist at last year's FRAM Route 66 Nationals. "The second pass we had one of our better 60-foot times (.832), but it drove through the clutch and dropped a cylinder on the top end resulting in the slower elapsed time."

The CARQUEST team will get two final shots to better their qualifying effort Saturday at 12:15 p.m. and 4 p.m. (CDT).
