Twenty years later, Morgan looking for another Dallas win
DALLAS (Sept. 19) – Former Dallas winner Larry Morgan looks to continue improvement with his Lucas Oil Ford Mustang in this weekend's AAA of Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex.
Morgan, who won in Dallas in 1991, bounced back from missing the field at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals to make four solid passes in qualifying No. 7 in Charlotte last weekend in Charlotte. A mysterious tire shake ended race day early, but the veteran Pro Stock driver was excited about the progress made by his Lucas Oil team.
"We'll take it to Dallas and get better," Morgan said. "We're going to work hard. At least we ran better. That's one good thing to say."
Morgan is getting plenty of horsepower out of his Ford engine and will continue to perfect the tune-up of the car to increase elapsed time.
"Absolutely, we have some more confidence going to Dallas," Morgan said. "We've just got to get the car right every time up we run. We're making a lot more good runs than bad. If we can eliminate those few missteps, we'll be good to go."
In addition to winning at Texas Motorplex in '91, Morgan also reached the finals there in 1989.
"I like Dallas," Morgan said. "I've done real well there before. It's been awhile but there's no time like the present to start a new streak there."
Pro Stock qualifying is slated to begin at 2:15 and 5:15 p.m. on Friday, and at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Final eliminations will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
