After Qualifying Second, Anderson is Ready to Have Fun in Pomona
On the strength of a 6.537-second elapsed time recorded on his opening attempt on Thursday afternoon, Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson earned the second starting position for Sunday’s final eliminations of the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, CA.
Although his final three passes were among the quickest of the 20 cars attempting to qualify, the four-time champion still felt there was room for further improvement in his race car’s performance as the KB Racing crew looked to adapt to what was proving to be a tricky Auto Club Raceway at Pomona surface. However, heading into his first round encounter with No. 15 qualifier Warren Johnson, Anderson was confident his team was up to the task, and looked forward to completing the 2011 season on a high note.
“Somehow this track seemed to throw us a curve over the last few days, and we never made a run we were totally happy with,” said Anderson. “The good news is that there are a lot of cars that are struggling to get a handle on this racetrack, and not just us. On top of that, all of our runs still ended up near the top of the page in each session, so things are not that bad.
“Still, we know we can run better, so we have our work cut out for us to get our Summit Racing Pontiac headed in the right direction, which I think we can do. We’ve certainly recovered in time for Sunday many times before, and I’m confident we’re capable of doing it again. I’m looking forward to tomorrow – it’s our last chance to lock horns for the year, and I’m ready to have some fun, seeing if we can go the distance and end the year in the winner’s circle, making up some ground and getting ourselves back in second place.”
