Antron Brown Places Matco Tools Dragster In Third Spot For Sunday’S Route 66 NHRA Nationals
Antron Brown, in his Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster, collected the third starting position here Saturday during final qualifying for tomorrow’s Route 66 NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway.
Brown used his Friday run of 3.869-seconds at 314.61 miles per hour to create a match up with 14th-place qualifier Troy Buff in the opening round of final eliminations beginning at noon ET.
“It’s time to go racing,” said the New Jersey native who has two wins to his credit in the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season. “I’m looking forward to going deep into the day on Sunday. As always, I’ve been given a fast hot rod so it’s on me to make sure I do the job behind the wheel.”
Brown is aware the first round of action could be a bit unpredictable given the lack of data collected by the crew chiefs for late morning runs the last two days.
“Since we qualified so late in the day on both Friday and Saturday, none of the teams were able to get the necessary numbers for when the first round will take place,” said the former Pro Stock Motorcycle rider. “I’m sure my guys (co-crew chiefs, Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald) will have us ready to go.”
With the Joliet tour stop marking the halfway point of the 22-race season, Brown has his sights set on climbing the points ladder.
“For sure,” he said. “We’re fourth right now, but we want to be at or near the top by the time we start the playoffs. Getting some wins would help make that happen.”
