Gallant and White take Victory; Manzo's Streak Ends at 47

ATCO, N.J. -- In the final rounds of Top Alcohol Dragster Authur Gallant of Boxboro, Mass., came from the No. 1 qualifying position to take home the coveted Wally trophy. Gallant coasted to victory in the finals due to the fact that Mike Kosky from Cuddy, Pa., broke in the previous round and was unable to compete in the finals. In Top Alcohol Funny Car Marc White, of Glendale Hts., Ill., took his first victory in Division 1 action in a Top Alcohol Funny Car. White's pass of 5.761 seconds at 249.53 mph was good enough to take victory over Marty Nothstein, of Orefield, Pa. The victory was long coming as White had a 0-5 record in Division 1 going into the finals with his last victory coming at Mid-Michigan in 2002.

However the story people cannot stop talking about took place in the first round of Top Alcohol Funny Car, where 11 times Lucas Oil National Champion Frank Manzo of Morganville, N.J., lost to the last place qualifier Nothstein. Nothstein a former Olympic Gold Medalist in cycling took out the hitter Manzo who had not lost in point baring competition the last 47 times down the track.

Al Ackerman from Saddle Brook, N.J., stands on top of the list in the Comp Eliminator category. His time of 8.037 seconds was good enough to keep the highly competitive field including defending Lucas Oil National Champion Frank Aragona of Freehold, N.J., behind him. In Super Stock Babylon, N.Y., resident Joseph Franco III will be the man to beat in his '85 Camaro. Briane Philbrick, from Vineland, Ont., will head into tomorrow's action as top qualifier in Stock Eliminator. Her time of 13.015 seconds was good enough to keep Richard Adkins, of Willingboro, N.J., relegated to the No. 2 spot.

Racing continues Sunday at Atco Raceway. Gates open at 7 a.m. Tickets are $10 for adults , children 6-11 are $1 and those 5 and under are free with paid adult. For more information, call Atco Raceway at 856-768-2167 or visit www.atcorace.com.
