Meyer kicks off 2010 with Runner-Up Finish in Atlanta On-Route to the GatorNationals
Randy Meyer Racing Injected Nitro Dragster Atlanta, GA - For the best part of 12 months, renowned A/Fuel Owner and Tuner Randy Meyer stayed clear of the driver cockpit but without a driver signed up for the 2010 season Meyer decided it would be a good chance to get back behind the wheel. Proving once again his abilities to multi-task as owner, tuner and driver, Randy wheeled his way to the final round and a Runner-Up victory at the LODRS Division Two event held at Atlanta Dragway this past weekend March 5-7.
After a solid qualifying pass of 5.36et at 264mph and sitting firmly in the number two qualifying position, Randy Meyer faced off against number 5 qualifier Artie Allen in the first round. Meyer gave up a little on the start line however the difference was made up by the Christmas tree and he thunder on for the win with a 5.31et at 265mph pass.
Taking a bye run in the semi finals, Meyer took advantage of the track and laid down a 5.36et at 257mph pass to advance into the Finals against current Division Two point's leader, Duane Shields.
Putting on a great show for the fans, Meyer went head to head with Shields and took a slight start line advantage however Meyer was to make his slowest run of eliminations at 5.41et at 262mph and watch on as Shields drove on by for the win with a 5.35et at 270mph pass.
With a Final round appearance under his belt, Meyer and team are now focused on their first NHRA National Event Appearance at this weekend's GatorNationals in Gainesville FL March 11-14 and are looking to continue their dominating performance all the way to the final round.
Having already claimed a GatorNational's Wally in 2006, Meyer is relaxed yet focused on the job at hand going into this weekend's event. With some added support from Wife, Mary and daughters, Megan and Rachel who are joining the team this weekend, Randy is certainly positive about one thing; having a great time enjoying his passion for the sport.
The fun will definitely not end Sunday for the Meyer family as on Tuesday March 16th we will also see the debut of Randy's eldest daughter, Megan who will be attending Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School looking to fine tune her skills behind the wheel of a Super Comp dragster. This will be the next step in Megan's amazing racing career and one more dream closer to reaching her goals of one day getting behind the wheel of her dad's A/Fuel Dragster.
