Local Hot Rod Shops Buzzing About Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion
Columbus-area automotive parts and hot rod shop owners looking forward to additional business from 3-day event, June 15-17
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- (June 4, 2007) -- Local shop owners are eagerly awaiting visitors to Columbus and a boost in sales during the 5th annual Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion, presented by SoffSeal, June 15-17 at National Trail Raceway.
"We anticipate an increase in customers and overall sales while reunion- goers are in town," said Larry Walker, manager of Parsons Auto Parts in Columbus.
"Jeg's Automotive has been the speed shop of choice in Central Ohio for more than 45 years," added Scott "Woody" Woodruff, Jeg's director of media & motorsports. "When there's an event in town our three retail stores are packed. You can feel an added excitement level when customers come through the door to have their performance needs handled and that's great for everyone."
The Reunion will honor some of the top names in hot rodding from the past, including Gary Rupp, Pat Dakin, John Abbott, Don Cain, Frank Hawley, Fred Hurst, Ted Harbit and Grand Marshal Jeg Coughlin, Sr. Legendary racers such as "Big Daddy" Don Garlits and "TV Tommy" Ivo will also be as the Reunion.
"I am really looking forward to attending the Reunion," said Ross Smith, owner of Smith Bros. Hot Rods & Classics, Marion, Ohio. "If our business gets a boost too, that would just be a bonus!"
"Hot rodders spend a lot of money in restoration and repair shops when they come to town," said Tony Thacker, executive director of the non-profit Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California. "I think local street rod and hot rod shops, like the museum, are extremely pleased that the Reunion will be held in Columbus." The Parks Museum produces and benefits from the Reunion, which is also presented by the Auto Club.
The 5th annual Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion, presented by SoffSeal, is part of the museum's Hot Rod Heritage Series which works to bring to life the sights, sounds and people who made history in the early days of drag racing, land speed racing and the golden age of American car culture.
Unique among motorsports events, the Reunion honors some of the top names in hot rodding from the past and features a fabulous array of cool drag cars, street rods, classics, customs and muscle cars of the historic and present-day hot rod eras.
