Harker Twins make a nice showing at the US Nationals
Brownsburg, IN. - Australian NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster drivers and twin sisters, Kate and Diana Harker had a good weekend at the 55th running of the MAC Tools US Nationals held at O'Reilly Raceway Park.
Rain and racing delays plagued the event, as the Top Alcohol Cars were shorted one of their qualifying sessions. Diana was driving the Harker family blown Top Alcohol Dragster while Kate was behind the wheel of Randy Meyer Racing Injected Nitro Dragster. The twins were competing in the Top Alcohol Dragster class while their father Steve made a successful showing driving his Top Alcohol Funny Car.
Diana's best pass of the weekend came in the first session as the team ran a solid 5.62 seconds pass at 240mph. Diana's two other qualifying efforts did not go as planned as the team chased tire shake and tune up issues. The last qualifying session was cancelled and Diana and team were unable to make the cut for the sixteen car field to go into eliminations.
Randy Meyer Racing Injected Nitro Dragster Kate, made a solid 5.31 seconds pass at 270mph in the second session to place the team in the 5th position at the end of qualifying. In round one of competition Meyer and Harker paired against Noah Condo. They got lucky on this run as Condo left too soon off the startling line and handed the win to Harker who drove Meyer's Injected Nitro dragster to a 5.42 seconds pass at 260 mph.
The second round of competition paired Meyer and Harker against Michael Manners. Harker was able to get a nice starting line advantage over Manners but was unable to hold him off at the finish line. Harker ran a good 5.39 seconds at 261mph in a trying effort.
"This was a fun weekend even though we did not get to compete with our family's dragster in eliminations" comments Diana "I was very excited for Kate and Dad going rounds and perhaps in the near future we will get the opportunity to race together again. Dad did a fantastic job tuning with Grant Storms and I would like to thank our sponsors and crew for their valuable support and effort this past weekend."
"Diana and I are gratefully for the opportunity we had to compete together this past weekend" said Kate "We both look forward to the day we can do this again and perhaps get to line up against each other on track. Dad did an amazing job tuning both his and Diana's race cars and then making the final round of competition. I have to give a special thanks to Randy and Mary Meyer and the crew, Dan, Scott and Matt for their hard efforts this past weekend."
Kate and Diana will now travel with their father, Steve to the Atlanta Dragway Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event to be held across September 11-13.
