LAMB, VANDER MEER WINNERS IN VEGAS ON GOODYEAR TIRES
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (April19, 2010) -- Justin Lamb is no stranger to winning drag races. The youthful college student won his seventh NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national event Sunday when he captured the Super Stock category victory in the SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Lamb was one of five drivers to race to victory on Goodyear tires at Las Vegas. The others included Dick Vander Meer (in Super Comp), Larry Dixon (Top Fuel), John Force (Funny Car) and Mike Edwards (Pro Stock).
The victory was Lamb's first national win at the facility the Henderson, Nev. resident considers his home track and he was thrilled to get the job done. He called the win one of the biggest of his career.
"It's definitely one of the better ones," Lamb said with a deadpan look.
Lamb (Nampa, Idaho) won the race in his Chevrolet Cobalt, a car he has raced in several categories.
"It was really consistent all weekend," Lamb said of his tire package.
Vander Meer's win was his first in national competition. He won in his fifth final round appearance. He has been racing since 1992 and earned his first final round berth in 1998. In all that time, Vander Meer has always raced on Goodyear tires.
Vander Meer summed up his feelings after the victory with two words: "It's awesome." His dragster was a scene of celebration after the race. Family and friends crowded around the popular winner.
"They were perfect," Vander Meer said of his tires. "The car was deadly, the tires were consistent...The 60-foot times never varied."
The racing surface was hot and slick most of the weekend, which is not unusual for Las Vegas.But both Lamb and Vander Meer overcame the conditions with help from their Goodyear tires.
