REICHERT, BROWN TAKE NHRA SPORTSMAN WINS ON GOODYEARS
CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 20, 2009) -- Top Alcohol Dragster driver Bill Reichert lives in Owosso, Mich. but he wouldn't mind racing at zMAX Dragway every weekend.
"I like it," Reichert said. "They've had two national events here and I've won them both."
Reichert and Rick Brown raced to victory on Goodyear tires in the NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series sportsman competition here, bringing Goodyear's event total to five. Brown's win came in Competition Eliminator. Goodyear's five wins were the best among tiremakers.
"Our Goodyear Eagles performed well," said Carolyn Ashbee, Goodyear's sales account manager for drag racing. "We won five times and we were in the final round of another category. The sportsmen categories offer direct competition with other timemakers, so that makes winning all the better."
Reichert's win in the all-Goodyear TAD final round came at the expense of Ken Perry. Reichert is fighting for the TAD national championship. He races on Goodyear's D1230 rear drive tire.
Brown, of Lebanon, Ohio, races a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup with a pair of Goodyear's D6892 radial tires on the back. He's on a hot streak, having reached the semifinals of the U.S. Nationals two weeks earlier.
"I've been using (the D6892) for three years now." Brown said. "We've been consistent with our 60-foot times, about 1.15 (seconds). We had a 1.14 in the final."
The truck weighs about 2,700 pounds and generates 860 horsepower. The D6892 measures 32 inches tall and 14 inches across the tread. It mounts on a 15-inch rim.
