Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts Pontiac GXP Racing team completed another solid qualifying effort on Saturday, with their 6.610-second, 208.88 mph best earning the third starting position for Sunday's O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals in Memphis, TN.

Although the warmer temperatures at Memphis Motorsports Park prevented any changes among the top seven qualifiers from Friday, The Professor took advantage of his final two attempts, opening with the fourth quickest pass in the morning session at 6.626-seconds before using his final attempt as a high-speed test session, with the six-time champion relatively pleased with their overall results.

"Our GM Performance Parts GXP continues to come around. We made some minor changes to it for this morning's session, and it responded nicely with that 6.62. Feeling confident there would not be a lot of shifting in the starting line-up in that last session, which there wasn't with the exception of Justin's run (Humphreys, who is running a WJ powerplant, and posted the low elapsed time for the session to move into the top half of the field), we put a different clutch in there to see how it would react. It's quite similar to the one we're using, but is just a lot lighter. Had it gone through second gear, we probably would have run a '.61 or '.62. Even though it didn't, we learned a little more, which was our objective for the day. For tomorrow, we just hope to continue this forward progress."
