MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Federal Mogul Dragster driver Shelly Howard went to her third straight semifinal round during this past weekend's Autozone Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Memphis Motorsports Park, just outside of Memphis, Tenn.

Howard, qualified No. 3 with an elapsed time of 5.487 at 256.55 miles per hour and defeated heavy hitter Jeff Wilson in round one with a 5.452 at 260.11 mph (career best mph), and Bill Reichert's A/Fuel Dragster in round two with a 5.523 at 254.81 mph. In the semifinals, Howard squared off against Division 4 rival, and eventual winner Troy Buff. Howard launched into severe tireshake that broke a framerail, which let the coupler (equivalent to a car's driveshaft) come out of the rear end, ending the run for Howard. Buff went on to take the win with a 5.484 at 254.18 mph.

"It left really good, and had a really great 60' time (.900), then started shaking the tires severely and broke a framerail, and the coupler came out," said Howard. "You can't go anywhere without it, so that was end of the run for me."

Howard's next event will be the O'Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex, just outside of Dallas. Howard feels after her 5.4 second performances at career best speeds of over 260 mph she is getting closer to her first win of the year.

"I'm happy to see we are finally finding out what the car wants," Howard said. "Of course the air was exceptionally good here this weekend, so we will just have to see what the conditions are in Dallas to see what the car will run. Traditionally, you can run some pretty good numbers at that race."
