Memphis, Tenn. (Oct. 8) - Today at the 13th Annual AutoZone Nationals in Memphis, Tenn. Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance Chevrolet S-10, assumed his Number 8 qualifying position on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder.

It was in the fourth session of qualifying that Whisnant would run a career best 7.469 / 179.59 mph to take the eighth spot on the eliminations ladder.

Whisnant would meet Winston Champion Bob Panella in the Round 1. A malfunctioning two-step switch would cause Whisnant to red light and end his day.

"The two-step malfunctioned," said Whisnant. "I couldn't hold it in the lights. I held it as long as I could, but I still red lit.

"I was going to try and stay in it, just to see what we have. I got real loose and out of shape at about half-track. I got out of it then. I figured it wasn't worth wrecking the truck just to see how we stacked up against the other guys.

"Even though I lost in Round 1, I am not unhappy about how we did here this weekend. It is obvious now that we can run with these guys. It was just one of those freak deals that sent us to the trailer.

"We are going to go home and service all of our stuff, we may even try and do some testing. We will be ready to race in Dallas in two weeks. We'll get them next time."

The next stop on the NHRA Drag Racing tour for the Pro Stock Trucks will be the O'Reilly Auto Parts Fall Nationals in Dallas, Texas, Oct. 19 - 22.
