Memphis, Tenn. (Oct. 8) - Brian "Lump" Self, driver of the Roof-Tec Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck, entered today's eliminations at the 13th Annual AutoZone Nationals in Memphis, Tenn. holding the 16th Position on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder.

A combination of cool temperature and low humidity made conditions perfect for quick elapsed times and high speed here at Memphis Motorsports Park. It was in the fourth round of qualifying the Self would drive his truck to a 7.494 / 178.45 mph to just squeak into the quickest and fastest field in Pro Stock Truck history.

Lump's opponent in Round 1 was good friend and Number 1 qualifier Greg Stanfield. Although Self had the advantage at the starting line, Stanfield would run Lump down on the top end. Stanfield would run a 7.443 / 180.52 to Self's 7.486 / 178.02.

"We are down on power right now," said Self. "We had a problem with head gaskets after the third session yesterday. We pulled the heads and tried to fix it, but apparently the motor is still hurt. Running this bad, we couldn't have caught Greg if we tried.

"We are going to go back home before Dallas and check everything out. Right now we are running 2 mile per hour slower than everyone else is. We need to either find the problem with this motor, or build a new one. I think I will be spending a lot of time in the dyno room in the next two weeks.

"We usually have good conditions in Dallas, and we have raced at the Texas Motorplex many times. We will go back to Houston and regroup. We will be ready to come out swinging in Dallas."

The next stop on the NHRA Drag Racing tour for the Pro Stock Trucks will be the O'Reilly Auto Parts Fall Nationals in Dallas, Texas, Oct. 19 - 22.
