The Weekly News Release of Larry Dixon & the Miller Lite Dragster
Snake Bites Larry Dixon will take a trip back in time this week prior to the NHRA event in Memphis. Dixon, who before becoming a driver for Don Prudhomme, first worked as a crew member for The Snake. Now after five years behind the wheel of the Miller top fueler, Dixon will find himself behind the wheel of a U-Haul truck transporting the 6,500 horsepower dragster. After selling their back-up car to Alan Johnson's Team Winston earlier this week, Dixon is personally hauling his Miller Lite Harley-Davidson back-up car from the team's shop in Indianapolis to Memphis in time for this weekend's race. Making the drive even more interesting is that Dixon will be joined by his wife Ali.

Although he enters this weekend's 12th Annual AutoZone Nationals ranked ninth in the Winston Top Fuel point standings, Larry Dixon will not deviate from his typical strategy when he climbs into the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite Dragster. “We are going into Memphis trying to win the race,” says Dixon. We are approaching this race the same as any other. If we do what we are supposed to by winning, then we have done our best by gaining as many points as we can. We can't control what the other teams are going to do, so we have to go into each of the last few races with that same game plan.” Aside from the team's first round finish last weekend at Topeka, Dixon continues to feel positive about the future success of the No. 91 car as Crew Chief Dick LaHaie enters his second event as the head wrench for Snake's top fueler. “Dicko is a real smart guy and I'm really looking forward to having a full weekend with good weather where we can really let him loose and put together a bunch of runs down the track,” says Dixon. “You have to remember that we are not losing Dale (Armstrong), we are adding LaHaie. With the two of them working together, showing results will just be a matter of time, and believe me, it will happen.” Results are exactly what Dixon would like to see happen this week at Memphis Motorsports Park, a track where he believes his national elapsed time record of 4.486 seconds could be in jeopardy. “We used to run Memphis in May, but now with it coming at the end of the season I think the cooler temperatures could be capable of producing a national record time,” surmises Dixon. “We have always qualified very well there and had some pretty good success with a runner-up finish two years ago. For us not to qualify and run well this weekend would be thoroughly disappointing.”
