Jeg is runner-up
Jeg and his Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier started race day from the No. 1 position. This was the first time this season he has started from the top spot and the 7th of his professional career.
The 33-year old two-time NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion scored a runner-up finish at the rain delayed 16th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil. The Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier out ran three of his four opponents.
Jeg Coughlin disposed of Scott Geoffrion in the opening round. In the second round the reigning NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion put "rookie" Dave Connolly on the trailer by out running him from start to finish. In the semifinal round Jeg defeated Jim Yates.
The final round put Jeg and Greg Anderson head-to-head. Lane choice went to Jeg and he stayed with the left lane. Jeg launched from the starting line first by .006 seconds (.025 to .031) and was ahead at ever incremental on the track until just after half-track. The Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier got a little loose before mid-track, but stayed with it. The win light came on by .0052 seconds in the other lane.
"We ran into problems on the track at the same point where Von Smith did a couple of pair ahead of us in Pro Mod," explained Jeg. "We had a solid weekend. We qualified No. 1 and made it to the final round. Our program is going in the right direction. We really want to end this season on a high note."
