Jeg Takes The Top Spot

Jeg Coughlin and his Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier ended the first of four qualifying sessions with room for improvement and was excited about it. The reigning NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion posted a 6.835 at 201.97 mph and landed in the No. 13 spot to start the weekend.

"The car took off toward the center line when we launched from the starting line and scrubbed off plenty of ET early in the run," said Jeg. "We should have run in the 6.70's, but that's racing. That's exciting to us because we know what the problem is and we know how to fix it."

In the second qualifying session Jeg laid down an impressive run of 6.748 at 202.94 mph in the left lane. Jeg made the quickest run and moved up to the No. 1 spot.

"We have had a lot come together in our program lately," said Jeg. "We have two new engines and have really picked up the pace since we tested in St. Louis before returning to the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. In Pro Stock power is king and we are making more horsepower. The results are because of teamwork. We have a great group that is passionate about what they are doing and they are dedicated."
