HERBERT'S SNAP-ON DRAGSTER READY FOR BIG SHOW IN INDIANAPOLIS

MEMPHIS (August 21, 2005) -- Doug Herbert didn't spend too much time racing at the O'Reilly Mid-South NHRA Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park.

That didn't make the veteran Top Fuel driver too happy.

But luckily for Herbert and the Snap-on Tools team, Herbert has another race in two weeks -- the biggest event of the season, nonetheless.

On Sunday, however, Herbert wanted to spend more time in Memphis. For just the second time since crew chief Wayne Dupuy joined the team at St. Louis in June, the team lost in the first round.

Herbert drove to a 4.862-second pass at 293.03 mph falling just short of Scott Kalitta's 4.803 at 302.96.

"It's really disappointing because this team wants to win so badly and we're all working so hard to make it happen," Herbert said. "The best thing about Wayne is that he is just as eager as I am to win. That's good when you're winning rounds, but it makes losing a little tough."

Herbert qualified in the No. 5 spot, running a 4.655-second and 302.48 mph. Now he and the entire Snap-on Tools team will put their energy toward the next event -- the next NHRA POWERade Drag Racing event is the 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park, Aug. 31-Sept. 5.

"We qualified well and I can tell that we are making progress every weekend," Herbert said. "We came up short today, but we will be back in Indy, ready to make a run at the most sought-after trophy of the year."
