CRUZ PEDREGON GAINING CONSISTENCY
INDIANAPOLIS (September 17, 2007) -- Cruz Pedregon and his Advance Auto Parts Funny Car team rolled into Tennessee's Memphis Motorsports Park for the 20th running of the Mid-South Nationals looking for improved results from the recent wholesale changes to the Advance Auto Parts Funny Car.
"We made three really consistent runs starting with Saturday afternoon in the heat," said Pedregon. "The good news for us is that we have a car that's becoming more consistent and competitive. The conditions got hotter and it maintained its consistency, so that's very encouraging for us and exactly what it takes to win rounds out here."
Pedregon qualified in the No. 13 spot with a 4.890/305.98 mph pass, and then posted a 4.901 pass in the final qualifying session. He faced John Force in the first round of Sunday's final eliminations. Pedregon was uncharacteristically late off the line and was edged at the stripe. He ran a 4.951, his third consistent run of the weekend, while Force posted a 4.902.
"As a driver, when you pull up to the lights you're looking for a flicker," explained Pedregon".I had brake problems and rolled in a little deep, so when the top light went out that drew my attention away.
"Rahn gave me a good car and the team did their job. Together we'll all sharpen up for Dallas and be ready to go."
Pedregon and his Advance Auto Parts team are optimistic heading into Dallas.
"Rahn is working on making it quicker, but that's going to take some time," said Pedregon. "He's very methodical. His strategy will help us win rounds and that's just what we need.We are very encouraged by the responsiveness of the car- it's doing what we ask it to do."
