MCCLENATHAN COLLECTS NO. 10 IN MID-SOUTH NATIONALS QUALIFYING
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Sept. 27, 2008) -- Cory McClenathan qualified the FRAM Top Fuel dragster No. 10 today at the 21st annual Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park. With another consistent qualifying performance, he and the FRAM team made four runs within six-hundredths of a second of each other.
McClenathan made his quickest run during Friday evening's cooler conditions with an elapsed time of 3.873 seconds at 310.13 mph, good for No. 8 at the time. His other qualifying runs were a 3.924/304.32 (No. 5), 3.913/299.86 (No. 10) and a 3.936/296.76 (No. 10).
"Once again the FRAM guys have done a great job," said McClenathan, who is No. 3 in Countdown to 1 points. "Obviously, I think we'd like to be qualified in a little bit better position, but No. 10 is not a horrible spot to be in. We've gone down both lanes, so I think lane choice is not going to be that big of an issue." He will give up lane choice to No. 7 qualifier Bob Vandergriff Jr. in round one of Sunday's eliminations.
"Vandergriff has been running much better lately and they're a very worthy opponent," added McClenathan. "We just need to go out there and do our job tomorrow. Our main objective is to just get by the first round. If we can keep on doing that with the FRAM Top Fuel dragster, I think we'll be looking good at the end of the day.
"There are a lot of tough match-ups in round one that are as equally tough as ours. Two of those races include Countdown cars in both lanes (Larry Dixon/Antron Brown, Tony Schumacher/Rod Fuller) and that may play in our favor. But we have to worry about the race at hand and that's trying to beat Vandergriff in round one."
