Millican Qualifies 9th in Elvis-themed Dragster at NHRA O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals

Memphis - Aug 21, 2004 Clay Millican of Team 104+ Performance Additives/Lehman Racing qualified in the ninth position at the NHRA O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park, the team's hometown track, driving an Elvis Presley-themed Top Fuel dragster.

"I'm really looking forward to Sunday's finals," said Millican, a native of Drummonds, Tenn. "All of my friends and family have been out here watching us all weekend, so it is going to be a lot of fun to race this awesome Elvis car in front of them tomorrow in eliminations."

Millican's best pass came on Saturday, when he piloted the team's Top Fuel dragster to an E.T. of 4.657 at 303.09 mph in the final session of the day. He will face number eight qualifier Doug Herbert in the first round of Sunday's final eliminations, set to begin at 3:00 p.m. CT. Millican goes into the match- up with three career round wins and just one loss against Herbert.

This marks Millican's seventh NHRA race of the 2004 season. He advanced to three straight final rounds this year at the national events in Houston, Bristol, and Atlanta, and hopes to get his first-ever NHRA Top Fuel victory at his hometown race this weekend.

Millican is currently 14th in the NHRA Top Fuel points standings, despite racing in only six of the sixteen races that have taken place thus far.
