MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Bruce Litton successfully used only half of his afforded qualifying attempts to secure a berth in the Top Fuel field at the NHRA AutoZone Nationals in Memphis, Tenn. The Indianapolis-based driver of the Wix Filters presented by the Top Dragster Driving Experience Top Fueler landed in the 15th spot at the conclusion of qualifying.
Litton feels that he enters his first round match against Joe Amato with a little more cold weather tuning knowledge than he used to.
"Sometimes it gets frustrating, but you have to stick to your game plan," explained Litton, who lifted at the thousand-foot mark on both passes. "We found a few things that we were looking for on both of the runs and because of that, whether we win or lose our first round match, this outing was a success."
Litton was testing in advance of the upcoming IHRA World Finals in Shreveport, La., in which he is in the midst of a three-way world championship battle between Paul Romine and Clay Millican. His best run came during Saturday's first session when he carded a 4.954 at the coasting speed of 243.37. The run established him as the 15th best in the 16-car field.
He elected to sit out the second session on Saturday just as he did on Friday.
In his only run on Friday, Litton carded an impressive 1,000-foot lap that resulted in a 5.071/227.34. He ended the first session as the ninth quickest qualifier.
The Top Dragster Driving Experience has retained Litton's team to carry out their marketing program with WIX Filters. Top Dragster Driving Experience President Joel Collins feels the triangle marketing partnership between WIX Filters, his company and Litton's team provides a future example for other teams aspiring to run Top Fuel.
