McDonald's Extends NHRA Team Sponsorship Association
OAK BROOK, III. (Oct. 15, 1997) -- McDonald's has announced an extension of a sponsorship association with Joe Gibbs Racing and Jim Yates Racing on the NHRA circuit through the 1998 season. McDonald's agreement with Joe Gibbs Racing includes a primary sponsorship on the team's Top Fuel dragster, driven by Cory McClenathan, and an associate sponsorship on the team's Funny Car, driven by Cruz Pedregon. McDonald's made an extension offer to Jim Yates and he accepted an associate sponsorship on his Pro Stock car. "We felt this was the right thing to do and are delighted to share this good news before the end of the season," said David Paro, McDonald's U.S. sports alliances director. "We have always appreciated the professional standard -- both on and off the track -- of the ownership, drivers and crew members, who comprise our NHRA teams." "Everyone associated with our race team is truly excited about this decision," said Gibbs. "We want to thank McDonald's for keeping the team together and allowing us to compete at a championship level. McDonald's has been a first-class sponsor and we have enjoyed a special relationship." Yates, who is the team owner and driver of the McDonald's Pro Stock car, said, "I appreciate the offer and I am excited about the opportunity of continuing an involvement with the McDonald's Racing Team." McDonald's has been a team sponsor on the NHRA circuit since 1992. Joe Gibbs and Jim Yates became owners of their respective McDonald's teams in 1995.
