"It's only the second race of the season. We have a lot of racing and hopefully a lot of winning left to do this season.", said Massey.

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 23, 2014) - The Battery Extender Powered by Schumacher dragster had a case of the hiccups this weekend at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park near Phoenix.

At the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season opener in Pomona, Calif., Spencer Massey's 10,000-horsepower machine made it down the track six out of seven times and was very predictable for crew chiefs Phil Shuler and Todd Okuhara.

But that wasn't the case at the warm Wild Horse Pass track.

"It really just wasn't our weekend," said Spencer. "We only went down the track two out of six runs, which was pretty much the opposite of Pomona. It's a different race track and we're racing Top Fuel dragsters.

"Sometimes it's your weekend and sometimes it's not. Sometimes the car just wants to hiccup and throw you a learning curve and that's what this Battery Extender dragster did to us this weekend."

After qualifying No. 11, Shuler and Okuhara got the Battery Extender dragster down the track in the opening round of eliminations with a pass of 3.826-seconds at 319 mph to defeat Bob Vandergriff.

But in the second round against Steve Torrence the Battery Extender dragster hazed the tires and slowed to a 4.223-second pass and did not turn on the win light.

"Every run, the car just didn't want to do what we wanted it to do. Hopefully we can get it sorted out at the next race. It is what it is, it's drag racing.

"It's only the second race of the season. We have a lot of racing and hopefully a lot of winning left to do this season."
