BRAINERD, Minn. - Despite being quick off the line, Marc White, driver of the Bar's Leaks/Etterman Racing NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car wasn't quite quick enough in his second round matchup with Dale Brand at this past weekend's Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway. Brand had a nearly psychic .003 reaction time to White's .032 reaction time.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., qualified the Bar's Leaks/Etterman Racing Firebird No. 2 with a 5.710 second time at 252.10 mph. In round one, he defeated Bruce Carlson with a 5.713 at 250.46 mph.
In his second round matchup with Brand, White just could not overcome Brand's starting line lead. Brand held on to win with a 5.792 at 246.03 mph to White's quicker 5.773 at 249.03 mph. Brand's margin of victory was a mere .010 of a second.
"Dale [Brand] definitely let out on the clutch at the right time," said White. "It was just one of those deals. He was quicker than me and we got beat. As a driver it always hurts to lose on a holeshot, but when both drivers have good lights, it isn't quite as bad. Today was just his day."
>From Brainerd, the team's next race will be the granddaddy of them all, the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.
"We're looking forward to Indy, its the biggest race of them all," stated White. "We really want to do well there for Bar's Leaks. We're going to have to be careful there, though because we only have one bullet left going into that race. We hurt one motor here this weekend, and won't have it ready in time. We'll at least play it safe through qualifying, and we'll see where the chips fall on raceday."
