BAZEMORE AND NEW CHIEFS CONTINUE TO JELL, QUALIFIES SIXTH IN ST. LOUIS

MADISON, Ill. (June 25, 2005) - Whit Bazemore and his new crew chiefs, Dan Olson and Todd Okuhara, are continuing to jell as a team, and today's qualifying effort at Gateway International Raceway for the 12th round of 23 events in the POWERade Drag Racing Series showed strong promise.

Bazemore's qualifying passes included a 7.343/122.59, a 4.908/314.61, a 4.847/320.66 and finally an 11.150/78.51. The 4.847-second ET in the third round in the heat and humidity placed the two-time season winner in sixth place and he'll face Tony Pedregon in first round of eliminations on Sunday.

"The Matco Tools Dodge is certainly coming around," he said. "It's more predictable. We stood on it pretty hard in the last run.

"It's a bit of a disappointment (to lose traction in that run), but it's not a complete surprise that we didn't get down the track. Dan Olson and Todd Okuhara are still finding their way with the car and the tune-up.

"You know, we are a very young team, so to speak - we basically started over last week - so to end up sixth is a pretty good effort.

"Tomorrow, first round is going to be under totally different circumstances (temperature and weather-wise), but we'll have the Matco Tools Dodge ready to rock and roll."
