Two in a row: Nance's Team Marines Cavalier paying off.

MADISON, Ill. -- Four races ago, Larry Nance and his Catch 22 Racing crew took delivery of a new 2002 Chevy Cavalier from the chassis shop of Jerry Bickel. It took crew chief Taylor Lastor and crew members Kirk Gisi and Harvey Thorla just two races to get the Cavalier competitive as Team Marine has qualified at the last two NHRA POWERade® Drag Racing Series events.

After qualifying two weeks ago in Columbus, at the Pontiac Excitement Nationals presented by Summit Racing, Nance has once again earned his way into the top 16 Pro Stock cars that qualified for this weekend's Sears Craftsman Nationals at Gateway International Raceway. With engine power supplied by Richard Maskin, Nance, from Akron, Ohio, qualified 13th with a best qualifying pass of 6.913 seconds at 199.35 mph.

In tomorrow's eliminations Nance will face Mark Whisnant, from Stockbridge, Ga., in the opening round. Whisnant qualified fourth with a pass of 6.890 seconds at 200.38 mph. The pair have never meet in head-to-head competition during eliminations.

Jim Yates was the #1 qualifier with a track record elapsed time of 6.848 seconds. Jamie Yates, son of the #1 qualifier, was the final car to make the field for tomorrow's elimination. The younger Yates held down the 16th spot with a pass of 6.925 seconds. It will be father against son in the opening round of eliminations tomorrow.
