13-Time Champ On Top as Series Reaches Midway Point

MADISON, Ill. -- In a season in which he has not started a single event from the No. 1 qualifying position and in which he has been eliminated in the first round on four separate occasions, John Force nevertheless rolls into Gateway International Raceway for this week's ninth annual Sears Craftsman Nationals in his usual position atop the NHRA POWERade Funny Car point standings.

The 56-year-old drag racing icon, whose team has won 12 consecutive series championships, leads Gary Scelzi by 62 points as the POWERade series reaches its midway point with Sunday's nighttime finals.
