HERBERT SET TO START THE SHOW IN ST. LOUIS

MADISON, Ill. (June 25, 2005) -- Doug Herbert already has a game plan for the first round at the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals at Gateway International Raceway.

After qualifying in the No. 9 spot Saturday in the Snap-on Tools dragster with a 4.683-second pass at 289.51 mph. Herbert will face Scott Kalitta in the first round. Kalitta turned in a 4.616 pass at 322.65.

"It's going to take a good run down the track because Scott has an unpredictable car and he could smoke the tires or run the quick time of the round," Herbert said. "We need to run a high 4.60 or low 4.70 and I have to do my job on the starting line. If we can do that, we move on to the next round."

This is the first race Herbert and the Snap-on team is working with crew chief Wayne Dupuy. Herbert said the team has nowhere to go but up from this weekend.

"We're making improvement and this has been a real hot track with challenging conditions for all of the tuners," Herbert said. "The blower belt came off during the second run today but we still ran a 4.68. We've got great guys and they are going to get the job done. We're going to win rounds and win races with this team. We're ready to go."

All of the action can be seen in high definition on ESPN2 starting with qualifying between 12 -- 1 a.m. (ET) Sunday. NHRA 2Day will air at 11:30 a.m. (ET) Sunday followed by the final elimination show at 9 p.m. (ET).
