SKULL GEAR Chevy Cobalt Runs 6.707 Seconds

MADISON, Ill., June 23, 2006 -- In case anyone asks Dave Connolly, qualifying under the lights at Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis is better than when the hot sun is beating on the race track.

Connolly improved his elapsed time from 6.749 seconds in his daylight run to 6.707 seconds last night but slipped from third to sixth because other drivers also bettered their times while preparing for Sunday's O'Reilly's NHRA Midwest Nationals.

"We were the quickest car in the right lane," Connolly pointed out. "Our car is running good. We were just in the wrong lane in the wrong session. But we are still in the top half of the field and we get a few more (qualifying) shots Saturday."

Saturday's qualifying sessions are scheduled at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday's race begins at 3 p.m.
