Line captures oole at Maple Grove with strong fourth-round run

Jason Line produced the two best Pro Stock qualifying runs today, including driving his Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro into the top starting position for tomorrow’s 28th annual NHRA Nationals here at Maple Grove Raceway with a fourth-round pass of 6.515 seconds at 212.36 miles per hour.

“We were low both rounds, got the maximum points and qualified on the pole; our guys did a great job and that’s always fun,” said the Mooresville, N.C. resident who turned in a 6.558-second, 211.93 mph run in today’s earlier session. “And what’s more exciting than that is both Summit cars are equally fast and have a great opportunity to win the race. We haven’t had that since we’ve been running the Camaros. Right now we have the two fastest cars here this weekend.”

Cool, overcast conditions led to several leader changes during the fourth qualifying session prior to Line’s final-pair pass, and with Sunday’s forecast for clouds and temperatures in the 50s, the reigning NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock champion believes race day could produce even quicker results.

“If it gets into the 50s, we could reset the record (6.477 seconds, which he set under similar weather conditions at last year’s race here),” he added.

A record brings 20 bonus points, which could be crucial in his chase of Alan Johnson, who leads Line by approximately five rounds in the Countdown to the Championship.
