Callaway takes tough first round loss.

ENNIS, Texas - Defending Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Lee Callaway suffered a tough first round loss during this weekend's NHRA Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the Texas Motorplex just outside of Dallas.

Callaway, from Baytown, Texas, qualified his Tom Conway tuned Blown Alcohol Dragster fifth in the field with a 5.503 at 256.48 mph. In round one, Callaway squared off with the juggernaut A/Fuel Dragster of Morgan Lucas. Callaway had problems off the line and launched into heavy tireshake that slowed him to a 5.614 at 255.42 mph which was not enough for Lucas' 5.475 at 266.35 mph.

"Even though we lost, it was a step forward for us this weekend," said Callaway. "We finally got our oiling problem solved, so we can go from here and start working on the tune-up again. We're pretty excited about going to Baton Rouge with that in mind."

The next race for the team will be the next stop on the Division 4 tour at State Capitol Dragway in Baton Rouge, La., May 16-18.
