Callaway looking to 'get after it' in Dallas

ENNIS, Texas - Defending NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Lee Callaway enters this weekend's O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec at the Texas Motorplex just south of Dallas with an aggressive frame of mind. With the pressure of the division points chase off his back, Callaway plans to 'get after it' at his home state race.

Callaway, from Baytown, Texas, feels that not having points to worry about will give his team an opportunity to test some new ideas and push the envelope.

"When you are chasing the points, you really have to walk on your toes and stick with what you know," said Callaway. "Any time you try something, you really take a big risk if it doesn't work. We're not really chasing national points this year, so we don't have anything to lose, and everything to gain. We've regretted in the past not getting after it at national events. Well, I can tell you after this race, whatever happens, one thing that won't be said is 'I wish we would have got after it."

In addition to going rounds, Callaway wants to better his personal best of a 5.45 second elapsed time.

"We don't run much in the really good conditions and good track," stated Callaway. "Hopefully we can get the car in the low .40's this weekend. We usually do pretty well in the odd years at Dallas, so hopefully we are due again."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions. Saturday will feature one final qualifying pass and first round of eliminations. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
